Alvarez will face Miguel Cotto in a middleweight fight on November 21 in Las Vegas (Photo : Al Bello/Getty Images)

<div class=”social_article addthis_toolbox”> <ul class=”social_a custom_images”>

0

WBC lineal middleweight Canelo Alvarez is expected to go back in the ring this coming May 7 in Las Vegas though his opponent has yet to be determined.

It will be his voluntary fight before addressing the WBC requirement where the Mexican will have to face mandatory challenger Gennady Golovkin.

For his part, Golovkin will also be in an interim fight this April though his opponent has yet to be named as well.

Whatever happens, the bottom line is that both fighters will have to face each other. However, for the ones who have closely followed the drama between the two fighters, a bit of a controversy exists.

This has something to do with the celebrated catchweight that Alvarez wants in play which could be snag when it comes to negotiations. The issue had died down a bit with the two fighters focusing more on their interim fights.

The latest word, however, from BoxingScene says that Alvarez is standing pat on that requirement which could jeopardize all hope of seeing that big fight in the Fall.

Alvarez is standing pat on fighting at 155 lbs., claiming that he is through when it comes to giving way to make big fights such as this from happening per his interview via ESPN Deportes.

However, the problem is that Alvarez is in a division where his catchweight is a demand, which works only to his advantage. The WBC is unlikely to give in to his request, same as mandatory challenger Golovkin. The Kazakh wants the fight to be made at the full middleweight limit of 160-pounds, which could hamper the fight from prospering.

With that said, there is a possibility that Alvarez could be stripped of the title and eventually make Golovkin the full champion without breaking a sweat. In all, Triple G will become full champion by default.

That development is bad news for the boxing fans who were hoping to see that epic clash between the two big fighters in the middleweight to date.

The closest that the two had, perhaps, come across was a sparring session which took place some years back. Alvarez says that the sparring was pretty good. However, he obviously understands that everything changes when an official fight takes place.

It remains to be seen if something else develops after May. Alvarez could have a change of heart and nix that catchweight rant or, then again, maybe not.

As it stands now, all eyes will be on Alvarez since Golovkin seems to be prepared for anything.

[embedded content]

0

© 2015 Latinos Post. The list includes big names such as John Cena, Seth Rollins, Randy Orton, Sting and Daniel Bryan. Most of the names on that list — if not all — could be a big draw so one can imagine how the WWE is cramming right now.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be there and so with Stone Cold Steve Austin. However, the two are not expected to take part in any physical matches and are likely to plainly appear and, perhaps, do some spills.

With that said, the WWE may end up hoping that Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, The Undertaker, Dean Ambrose and, perhaps, even rising star Kevin Owens will suffice. However, somehow, it seems that those names may not be enough.

So, is it time to skim down the line further?

There have been talks of someone from the WWE past who made a brief appearance before – Bill Goldberg.

Goldberg needs no introduction. He was another big name in the WCW days and is someone that the WWE fans would surely want to see. While age may have slowed down the dominant force of before, seeing him back and at Wrestlemania 32 could be a kicker.

Austin believes that Goldberg could be a big boost if the rumors surrounding his possible return do come into fruition. Austin was speaking recently at the Ross Report podcast where he incidentally mentioned that he was 99% sure of being at Wrestlemania 32.

It was here as well that Austin broke down the things that Goldberg could do and he ended that portion by saying it would be something he would look forward to as well.

Goldberg didn’t exactly have a good working relationship with the McMahon when he came on board in 2003-2004. His last match was against Triple H at WWE Armageddon which he lost when ‘Evolution’ stuck their nose in.

WrestlingNewsWorld.com made mention last month that the WWE and Goldberg are in talks of possibly staging a rematch between the two for Wrestlemania 32. Unfortunately, the site is only by subscription though Forbes did provide some excerpts from that story.

A Lesnar vs. Goldberg battle could be epic only that the last one they had (Wrestlemania 20) didn’t exactly turn out to be one and both ended up leaving the WWE. Could the story be different now?

[embedded content]

0

© 2015 Latinos Post. (Photo : Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

<div class=”social_article addthis_toolbox”> <ul class=”social_a custom_images”>

0

Anderson Silva is all set to make his much-awaited return in February, facing Michael Bispin in a UFC Fight Night card set for London.

While that is a welcome development, it seems Silva should have been part of UFC 197 had talks with Vitor Belfort not bogged down, as per MMA Fighting.com. As it turns out, initial plans were to stage a Silva vs. Belfort II at the Arena de Baxaida soccer stadium in Curitiba, making the tiff the co-main event.

The main event for UFC 197 will see Fabricio Werdum in a rematch with Cain Velasquez. Also on the cards is Holly Holm who will be making her first title defense against Miesha Tate.

A Belfort vs. Silva rematch would have been interesting with Belfort looking to avenge that KO loss he suffered at the hands of Silva back in 2011 during UFC 126. But as it turns out, Belfort reportedly turned down that opportunity with the Brazilian opting to wait on the Luke Rockhold vs. Chris Weidman fight.

Rockhold won that match and as a consolation, called out Belfort. Rockhold is apparently keen on avenging his loss to Belfort back in 2013 with some personal vendetta on the side. This apparently had something to do with Belfort on testosterone-replacement therapy.

As far as Belfort is concerned, it was a matter of choice and he opted to wait for an opportunity at the title held by Rockhold than a rematch with the returning Silva.

He may, however, have to wait since a rematch between Rockhold and Weidman may be brewing.

As far as Belfort shunning the Silva fight, here is the official statement made by Decker via Combate.

“Many people said Vitor didn’t want this fight, and that wasn’t the truth. He wants it, he made it clear it will happen at some time, but for him, thinking about his career and what he has ahead of him at this moment, this fight wouldn’t make sense. We were running out of time, and the UFC needed to announce the UFC 196 main event in Las Vegas.”

With that ironed out, Belfort may have to wait in the sidelines. Though his name has been mentioned as one of the possible opponents for Rockhold, there are other names on the list that are in consideration.

Aside from Weidman, the list includes Yoel Romero and Ronaldo Souza who are seen as more realistic challengers over Belfort. Belfort lost his chance when he bowed to Chris Weidman via TKO in May last year.

[embedded content]

0

© 2015 Latinos Post.
